Blessing of the Boats – Temporary Road Closure
TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE

Statement of Reasons
It is proposed to close a section of Pier Road in Castlebay between 13:00 and 16:00 on Sunday 7th July, 2024. The reason for this temporary road closure is to cater for the Blessings of the Boats at Castlebay Pier.
The closure is in the interest of road safety. A large crowd will gather at Castlebay Pier for a community event that may draw over 400 people.
In previous years the road wasn’t closed, which allowed vehicles to travel slowly amongst the crowd. Although there had never been any safety concerns it was decided to restrict traffic for a short time to allow the crowd to mingle safely. The road will be shut at the Post Office, this will allow access to properties, the Filling Station and the parking area.
The road will re-open following the service.
