WILLOWGLEN ROAD, STORNOWAY – TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE

STATEMENT OF REASONS

It is proposed to close a section of Willowglen Road in Stornoway between 11pm and 12am (midnight) on each of Thursday 18th July, Friday 19th July and Saturday 20th July 2024.

The temporary road closure is in the interests of road safety as pedestrians exit the Hebridean Celtic Festival each night of the Festival.

In 2023 the exit from the Festival site was changed which led to large numbers of pedestrians arriving on to Willowglen Road from the Castle Road each night as the Festival closed. Following discussion with Festival organisers and Police Scotland, a decision was taken to close Willowglen Road to traffic for one hour each night of the Festival to allow pedestrians to exit the Festival and disperse safely.

The section of road closed is: WILLOWGLEN ROAD – from the junction with Macaulay Road and then in a north westerly direction to the junction with the A859, a distance of 270M or thereby.

Traffic will be held up at any junctions or accesses to the section of Willowglen Road affected by the Order.
