
In partnership with the Scottish Book Trust, a networking breakfast will be held in Stornoway Town Hall on Tuesday 18th March, 2025 from 9am – 10.30am.
Scotland’s newly appointed Makar, Peter Mackay, will MC an inspirational programme that includes lightning talks from local literacy champions from Stornoway Primary, UHI North West and Hebrides, Community Learning Hebrides and more.
The event will also feature a panel on strengthening Gaelic reading culture chaired by Agnes Rennie and featuring Peter Mackay and newly appointed Senior Librarian Gaelic and Outreach, Finlay Maclennan. The Scottish Book Trust will conclude the event with a round-table discussion on forming new partnerships despite funding challenges and developing innovative literacy solutions.
Breakfast will be provided by On Board Hebrides and coffee from Sandwick Bay Candles. This event is supported by the Scottish Government Public Library Improvement Fund, the Scottish Library & Information Council and the Scottish Book Trust. The event will be live-streamed.
The event is free, but registration is essential.
As part of the Islands Literacy Symposium, Western Isles Libraries are offering free professional learning for teachers and school staff with the Scottish Book Trust on Tuesday 18 March, 2025 from 3.30-4.30pm at Stornoway Library. Afternoon tea will be provided.
