Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais Pool Update

The swimming pool at Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais in Stornoway remains closed as a result of damaged floor tiles.

Following the successful draining of the pool, contractors began interior work early this week and the tile replacement work is now nearing completion. The adhesive and grout used on the new tiles will require 7 days to set before it can be exposed to water and chlorine. Once the setting period has passed, we will begin filling and reheating the pool, a job which will require several days to complete. Once the pool has been filled and heated, water tests will be completed before we are able to re-open the pool to the public safely. Due to the time required for all of these processes to be completed, the pool will remain closed next week. If all goes according to schedule, we currently expect to be in a position to re-open at the beginning of the week of 28th October and a further update will be provided next week once the pool is being refilled.

We are aware that the closure will cover the period of the October holidays, so with this in mind we have been able to secure extended opening hours at our rural swimming pools in Lionel and Shawbost.

The opening times from Tuesday 15th October will be as follows:

Shawbost

  • Wednesday 16 October:  2pm – 9pm
  • Friday 18 October:  2pm – 9pm
  • Saturday 19 October:  11am – 4pm
  • Monday 21 October:  2pm – 9pm
  • Wednesday 23 October:  2pm – 9pm

Lionel

  • Tuesday 15 October:  2pm – 9pm
  • Thursday 17 October:  2pm – 9pm
  • Saturday 19 October:  11pm – 4pm
  • Tuesday 22 October:  2pm – 9pm

The Sauna and Steam room at ISL remain operational as well as the sports hall, gym, climbing wall and squash courts, which are all available to Slàinte Mhath members at no charge or at pay-as-you go prices for non-members.

The holiday Motiv8 programme for children will also commence from Tuesday and runs throughout the holiday period.

We would again like to thank you for your patience during this period of disruption and are looking forward to welcoming you all back to the pool soon.
