Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places

We Asked

The aim of the review is to ensure that all electors in each constituency have reasonable facilities for voting and, so far as is reasonable and practical, the polling places that the Comhairle is responsible for are accessible to all electors. In considering suitable polling places, the Comhairle must ensure that they are accessible for people with disabilities.

You Said

The Comhairle gave notice of the holding of the review on the Comhairle’s website and on the “Have your Say” consultation page. Notice of the Review was circulated to Elected Representatives, Political Parties, Community Councils and other stakeholders.

No comments were received during the consultation period. The draft proposals were submitted to the Comhairle in February 2024 and subsequently approved. The Polling Places will be used for UK Parliamentary, Scottish Parliamentary and Local Government elections.

Why we are consulting

The aim of the review is to ensure that all electors in each constituency have reasonable facilities for voting and, so far as is reasonable and practical, the polling places that the Comhairle is responsible for are accessible to all electors. Persons or bodies making representation should, if possible, give alternative venues that may be used as Polling Places.

What happens next

After the consultation period and consideration of all representations received, draft proposals for the Scheme of Polling Districts and Polling Places will be published and final recommendations will be presented to the Comhairle on 6 December 2023. Once the Comhairle has agreed the proposals the new Scheme of Polling Districts and Polling Places will be published and the Register of Electors will take into account any changes made.
