Young Scot

The Young Scot National Entitlement Card (NEC) is available free of charge to everyone aged 11-25 living in Scotland.

Young Scot

Young people aged 11+ can access free bus travel in Scotland (up to age 22) using their Young Scot NEC. Parental permission is required for 11-15 year olds to travel and this can be given when applying.

The Young Scot NEC also provides young people with discounts (including 10% off at Co-op), a proof of age card, ferry concessions for 16-18 year olds and other benefits. More information on local, national and online discounts can be found at Young Scot young.scot For more information on local youth events and activities follow us on facebook @WesternIslesYouthServices and Instagram @eileansiaryouth.

Each year parents and guardians of Primary 7 pupils are contacted via Groupcall to allow them to apply for their child’s Young Scot Card. Young Scot Application Form and Guidance Notes are available for anyone who has not already applied for a Young Scot Card.

Young people aged 5-10 years (Junior NEC)

Young people aged 5-10 require the application to be made by their parent or guardian, but do not require a photo. Details of how to apply online can be found at getyournec.scot.  All applicants are encouraged to apply using this route. If you are experiencing difficulties, you can contact Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Transport Section by emailing freebus@cne-siar.gov.uk.

If your child already has a Junior NEC with free bus travel, you can apply for a Young Scot NEC from age 11 as the Junior NEC is only valid until the child’s 12th birthday.
