Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024 Begins

Scottish Apprentice Week 2024

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar joins Western Isles Employability and Developing the Young Workforce Outer Hebrides in celebrating Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024, which starts today.

Scottish Apprenticeship Week is an annual celebration of the positive impact apprenticeships have on apprentices, employers, and the local economy.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar currently supports a wide range of apprenticeships throughout the Western Isles, from Foundation through to Modern and Graduate Apprentices.

For senior phase secondary pupils Foundation Apprenticeships have been developed to help young people gain valuable experience through work-based learning while they are still in school. Modern and Graduate Apprenticeships give people of all ages and levels of attainment the opportunity to gain high level qualifications while earning and working in the Western Isles.

As of 29 September 2023, there were 309 Modern Apprentices in training across the islands.

Throughout the week, social media content and apprentice stories will be shared on the DYW Outer Hebrides, Western Isles Employability and CNES social media pages.

There will be an Apprenticeship Careers Event in The Nicolson Institute on Thursday 7 March, from 9am – 1pm, which will aim to show school leavers, from 4th – 6th year, the local apprenticeship opportunities available to them.

There will also be an Apprenticeship Information Drop-in Session in the Stornoway Town Hall on Tuesday 5 March, from 10am – 6pm. This will be open to any individual, parent or employer who would like to know more about apprenticeship opportunities and the support available to them when undergoing an apprenticeship or hiring an apprentice.

If any employer would like to get involved in Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024, by sharing an inspiring story of an apprentice in your organisation, please get in touch at: employability@cne-siar.gov.uk
