Air an ath-mhìos gabhaidh cuirmean àite ann an Leòdhas agus anns na Hearadh mar phàirt de Dhìleab 2024: Leverhulme. Gabhaidh a’ chiad chuirm àite anns an Lanntair air Diardaoin 14mh Màrt aig 1900 agus bidh fiosrachadh a thaobh tiogaidean ri fhaighinn a dh’ aithghearr. Bidh sgoilearan bho chlasaichean Gàidhlig 6 & 7 aig Bunsgoil Steòrnabhaigh a’ dol air ais ceud bliadhna gus sùil a thoirt air eachdraidh a’ bhaile aig an àm agus abair gu bheil iad air bhioran an dràma a thoirt dhan Lanntair. Àm air leth inntinneach ann an eachdraidh ar n-eileanan a bh’ann agus bidh dràma gu leòr ri fhaicinn.
Thuirt Seonag NicFhionghuin, a sgrìobh dealbh-chluiche Steòrnabhaigh còmhla ri Alasdair MacLeòid:
Bidh an dàrna oidhche a’ gabhail àite air an Tairbeart air Diciadain 27mh Màrt aig 1900 le sgoilearan bho Sgoil Sir E Scott agus bho Sgoil an t-Òib a’ gabhail pàirt. Thuirt Iain A MacSuain bho Sgoil Sir E Scott a tha a’ sgrìobhadh dealbh-chluiche na Hearadh còmhla ri Aonghas Mac’Illinnein:
“Tha sinn air leth toilichte a bhith ag obair air Dìleab 2024 agus tha sinn uile air mòran ionnsachadh. Tha an taic a fhuair sinn bho Marion Mhoireasdain, Hamish Taylor agus Dòmhnall Màrtainn a tha nan eòlaichean eachdraidh air còrdadh gu mòr ri gach sgoilear agus tha e mìorbhaileach a bhith a’ faicinn na h-ùidh a tha aca ann a bhith ag ionnsachadh mun àm sin anns na Hearadh. Tha sinn air leth fortanach gu bheil daoine againn a tha cho deònach ar n-eachdraidh a thoirt beò don òigridh agus tha Dìleab mu thràth air buannachdan mòr a thoirt dhuinn. Tha sinn gu bhith air leth trang gu deireadh a’ Mhàrt ach tha sinn làn chinnteach gum bi oidhche air leth (no ‘s dòcha dhà) air an Tairbeart agus gun còrd e ri sean is òg”.
Bidh tuilleadh fiosrachaidh mu thiogaidean airson tachartas na Hearadh ri fhaighinn anns na seachdainean a tha air thoiseach oirnn. Cuideachd, mar phàirt den phròiseact tha Sgoil Sir E Scott a’ cruinneachadh fiosrachadh mu Mhorar Leverhulme, agus na h-oidhirpean a rinn e gus ath-bheothachadh a thoirt air na Hearadh, còrr is ceud bliadhna air ais. A bheil sgeulachdan inntinneach agaibh mu ‘Bhodach an t-Siabainn’ nach deach fhoillseachadh riamh ann an leabhar? Dè mu dheidhinn òrain no bàrdachd? No ’s dòcha gu bheil dealbhan no rudan eachdraidheil agaibh a’ buntainn ris an àm sin, a bhiodh sibh deònach a thoirt dhuinn airson greiseag. Thuirt Evelyn Coull NicLeòid bho Roinn an Fhoghlaim aig a’ Chomhairle:
“Tha mòran obrach air àite a ghabhail bho thoiseach na blìadhna agus tha mìosan trang air thoiseach air gach neach a tha gu bhith ag obair anns na sgoiltean againn. Tha sinn taingeil gu bheil sgioba bho làidir againn a bhios a’ lìbhrigeadh a’ phròiseict sna sgoiltean. Ged a tha na cuirmean fhèin aig cridhe na cùise, tha am pròiseas a cheart cho cudromach. Tha na sgilean a tha an òigridh a’ faighinn air leth feumail dhaibh agus seasaidh sin riutha fad am beatha. Tha e cuideachd a’ toirt cothrom dhaibh na sgilean cànain aca a leasachadh agus Gàidhlig a chleachdadh ann an suidheachaidhean eadar-dhealaichte”.
Bu mhath le Comhairle nan Eilean Siar taing a thoirt do Riaghaltas na h-Alba airson an taic maoinichidh a thug iad seachad gus Dìleab 2024 a thoirt gu buil. Tha an taic a bhios sinn a’ faighinn bho ar com-pàirtiche, Fèisean nan Gàidheal, na buannachd leantainneach dhuinn uile.
Dìleab 2024: Leverhulme Concert Announcements
In March two events will take place in Lewis and Harris as part of Dìleab 2024: Leverhulme. The first event will take place at An Lanntair, Stornoway, on Thursday the 14th of March at 7pm and ticketing information will be available soon. Pupils from GME 6 & 7 at Stornoway Primary school will take to the stage for an evening full of drama! Pupils will bring the audience back one hundred years to an interesting and challenging time in the history of the town and the island.
Joan MacKinnon, who co-wrote the script with Alasdair MacLeod said:
“After how successful Dìleab 2023: Metagama was, we jumped at the opportunity to work with Stornoway primary for Dìleab 2024: Leverhulme. It was amazing to see how much information the pupils had retained from last year and how interested and engaged they were with this year’s topic. The pupils are diligent, eager to learn and full of fun. It’s a delight to work with the school on this hugely worthwhile project”.
The second evening will take place in Tarbert on Wednesday the 27th of March at 7pm with pupils from Sir E Scott and Leverhulme Memorial School showcasing their talents. Iain A MacSween, from Sir E Scott school, who co-wrote the script with Angus MacLennan added:
“We are delighted to be involved in Dìleab 2024 and we have all learnt so much from the experience. The support from local historical experts Marion Morrison, Hamish Taylor and Donald Martin has been amazing and pupils have engaged so well with them. We are extremely fortunate to have people who are so willing to share their knowledge with the next generation and Dìleab has already reaped many benefits for us. We are set to be extremely busy between now and the end of March but we are certain that it will be a night (or two!) which will be greatly enjoyed and remembered by young and old”.
More information on ticketing for the Harris event will become available in the coming weeks. In addition to the preparatory work which is taking the place Sir E Scott and Leverhulme Memorial School are also looking to engage with the wider community. Perhaps you have stories relating to ‘Bodach an t-Siabainn’ that have never been published? It could be a song or a poem or perhaps even a picture taken at the time. If you would be willing to share this information or even lend the artefacts for a short time, Iain MacSween would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact him on iamacsween@gnes.net for more information.
Evelyn Coull MacLeod, from the Education Department of the Comhairle further commented:
“A huge amount of work has been undertaken since the start of the year and it is certainly going to be a busy time for all involved. We are thankful to have such a strong and talented team who will be delivering in our schools. Although the final performances are at the heart of what we do the entire process is equally, if not more, important. The skills our young people are obtaining is hugely important and will remain with them for many years. It also gives our pupils the opportunity to further develop their language skills and utilise them in different contexts”.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar would like to thank the Scottish Government for their financial support in bringing Dìleab 2024 to fruition. Ongoing support from partner agency, Fèisean nan Gàidheal, continues to produce benefits for all.
