As part of Seachdain na Gàidhlig celebrations, Morgan MacLeod, a valued member of the Multimedia Department at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar returned to his former school in Lionel, Ness, this week. Morgan engaged with pupils, sharing insights into his role, the importance of Gaelic in his work, and provided a hands-on experience of his daily work life for pupils.

Morgan admitted that during his time at university, studying computing, he didn’t see a huge relevance in using Gaelic. He now recognises that he was wrong. Speaking Gaelic gave him a significant advantage when joining the Multimedia Unit, and his skills in the language continue to develop as part of his work.

Speaking about his visit, Morgan said:

“It’s been fantastic to return to Sgoil Lionail and share my journey with the pupils. Looking back, I didn’t realise just how valuable Gaelic would be in my career. It has opened so many doors for me professionally, and I hope my experience shows the younger generation how important the language can be, especially when combined with digital skills.”

The visit provided pupils with a unique opportunity to see how Gaelic can be used in modern multimedia work, inspiring them to consider how language skills can support diverse career paths.
