Cllr Donald Macsween, Chair of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Comataidh na Gàidhlig, said:
“This additional support for the language is very welcome, particularly at a time when the Scottish Languages Bill is going through Parliament. We encourage the provision of increased support to the Gaelic-speaking communities of the Isles for these communities to survive and prosper. The Comhairle looks forward to working with communities to maximise the impact of strategic, collaborative working on the Gaelic Agenda.”
Heightening public awareness with regard to the potential economic as well as social and cultural importance of Gaelic remains a key aspect of the Comhairle's strategy going forward.
