Overview
The role of Trading Standards is focused on protecting consumers by helping to ensure a fair trading environment exists for legitimate businesses to operate within. The team is responsible for enforcing a wide range of legislation and use an intelligence led approach to assess local complaints, national trends and emerging issues. Our authorised officers may also be often involved with carrying out routine inspections to trade premises, examining goods for sale, testing trade equipment, undertaking test purchases or even taking samples of goods.
The team regularly provide advice to businesses, assist vulnerable people with consumer issues and where appropriate investigate complaints about a business or individual/s where alleged criminal offences may have taken place.
