Lewis Youth Council

Lewis Youth Council (LYC) meets monthly in Pointers Youth Centre and is supported by Community Learning and Development staff.

The Lewis Youth Council (LYC) provides a flexible forum to give young people a space to talk about issues which affect them in their island community, to meet with decision makers and to use their voices.

LYC have met with Gordon Jamieson (Chief Executive, NHS Western Isles), Jane Mackenzie (Chief Inspector, Police Scotland) and PC Steele (Campus Police Officer) recently and continue to share the views of young people on issues that affect them. Some of the events recently offered to young people included ice skating trip with Harris Youth Council, bowling trip as well as health and wellbeing workshops in a local beauty salon. These events ran to meet the needs highlighted through the youth council.

The Lewis Youth Council is open to young people aged 12-25. We have a school age group for those in S1-S6, and a group for those 16-25 years old who are no longer in school.
