Positive Reports for Comhairle Care Homes in Lewis and Harris

Harris House has received a positive report from the Care Inspectorate following an inspection carried out in February 2025.

In the report, Harris House has been assessed to be good or very good in the two measured criteria and judged to have met three areas for improvement that had been identified following the Care Inspectorate’s last visit.

In evaluating quality, the Care Inspectorate use a six-point scale where 1 is unsatisfactory and 6 is excellent. Harris House received the following assessment.

  • How well do we support people's wellbeing? 5 - Very Good
  • How good is our staff team? 4 - Good

Earlier this year the Care Inspectorate published a report of its inspection of Taigh Shiphoirt noting the significant improvements made since the home’s last inspection.

A Comhairle Spokesperson said:

“Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is committed to delivering high standards of care in all of our care homes. Both the positive inspection report for Harris House and the significant improvements noted in the Taigh Shiphoirt inspection are evidence of the commitment of the Comhairle leadership team and social care employees within our homes to provide the best possible care to each individual resident. The Comhairle places a high value on building positive relationships between our services, residents and their family and friends. It is pleasing to see these positive relationships acknowledged and evidenced in the findings of both inspection reports.”
