Positive Report for Adult Support and Protection Services

Positive Report for Adult Support and Protection Services

Adult Support and Protection Services in the Western Isles have received a positive report from the Care Inspectorate and Healthcare Improvement Scotland.

The inspection, carried out in October 2024, assessed the delivery of Adult Support and Protection Services by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, NHS Western Isles and partner agencies.

The report evaluated the Western Isles Partnership on 7 areas for improvement, identified in the previous inspection in October 2022. The Partnership was commended for the progress achieved, assessed to be at the highest available grade in 6 areas and scored at the second highest grade for the other area.

The report identifies several examples of good practice with the partnership work of Western Isles agencies singled out as a key positive:

"The unified approach among health, police and social work coordinating their efforts enhanced governance and management oversight to ensure the safety and well-being of adults at risk of harm. This significantly augmented resilience and drove substantial improvements and better outcomes for adults at risk of harm. This collaborative approach led to better outcomes and ensured their needs are met more comprehensively."

Speaking on the inspection findings Ross Drummond, Independent Convenor of the Adult Protection Committee said:

"The findings of the latest inspection into Adult Support and Protection Services are hugely welcome and serve as clear evidence of the commitment of all local partners to drive positive change and deliver the best possible outcomes for adults at risk of harm in the Western Isles. I would like to thank all involved for their continued work and collaboration. Moving forward the Partnership will continue to work closely with the Care Inspectorate with a focus on sustaining the positive development of the service."
