The Integrated Children’s Services Plan (2023-2026) plan’s overarching aim is to ensure that children and young people in the Western Isles have a right to be cared for; protected from harm, abuse, and exploitation; and to grow up in a safe environment, in which their rights are respected, and their needs are met.
With sections covering topics including education, youth justice, child poverty, child protection, health and wellbeing and the Promise the plan gives a comprehensive overview of children’s services delivery and sets clear standards for organisations.
The revised Children’s services plan was approved by Comhairle members at a meeting of the Education, Sport and Children’s Services Committee on 26 November 2024.
Speaking on the plan, Jack Libby, Chief Social Work Officer, said:
“This is an important document that sets the Western Isles strategy for the delivery of Children’s Services. While the primary responsibility for the delivery of Children’s Services in the Western Isles lies with the Comhairle and NHS Western Isles it is important that all organisations and members of the public have a clear understanding of the needs and rights of children and young people in our community. I am pleased that this document is now available to the public and would encourage everyone to take the time to review the plan.”
