The book, which will be made available for sale, will detail the main milestones, successes and challenges of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar in the past 50 years. Featuring contributions from several key individuals, the book will not only reflect on the past but also look forward to what the next 50 years in the Western Isles might look like.
To support the costs of producing the book the Comhairle will be approaching local businesses with advertising opportunities. The Comhairle also invites any individual with an interest in supporting the book to donate £5 or £10 to the costs, using the payment form on the Comhairle website. Anyone who takes up the opportunity will have their name included in the acknowledgements section of the book.
Cllr Kenny Macleod, Convenor of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, said:
"It is highly appropriate that we have a proportionate event and a book to mark the Comhairle's 50th Anniversary in May next year. In addition to looking forward, there are some significant events for us to look back on, not least the major infrastructure projects which connected our islands, the Sgoiltean Ùra project and the BCCI crisis."
"I would encourage anyone who would be keen to support the production of this book, to contribute towards the costs."
