On the two measured categories of support for people's wellbeing and the quality of the staff team the Barra Day Centre was scored as Excellent the highest grade on the Inspectorate's 6-point scale.
In making evaluations during their unannounced inspection of the service the care inspectorate:
- spoke with five people using the service and two of their relatives
- spoke with six staff and management
- observed practice and daily life
- reviewed documents.
Performance was described as sector leading with outstandingly high outcomes for people. Service users were observed to have strong relationships with the staff who provide individually tailored activity programmes promoting independence, lifelong learning and integration with evidence of improved outcomes. Service users were being consulted on in relation to their person centred plan and regular reviews were in place. Relatives were also complimentary of the service.
The longstanding and stable staff group described as dynamic, highly skilled and confident were commended in the report for their commitment, flexibility and knowledge of each of the service users providing a bespoke and responsive support service. Management was visible and involved in the service, ensuring staff were provided with a training programme beyond the requirements of their role.
