Mrs Ina MacDonald, Islivig, Uig passed away in March 2024. She had been a resident in Dun Berisay before transferring to Taigh Shiphoirt in June 2023. Ina’s family kindly donated the collection taken at her funeral service to Taigh Shiphoirt.
In discussion with her family the decision was made to purchase a defibrillator with the support of contributions from Stornoway Elected Members ward funding.
Lucky2BHere supplied the defibrillator and organised training for volunteers from the staff groups at Taigh Shiphoirt and Alzheimer Scotland’s day service Solas.
At the official unveiling, Ishbel MacDonald, Interim Manager of Taigh Shiphoirt gave a welcoming speech before a commemorative plaque was formally unveiled by George, one of Ina’s 5 sons. George was accompanied by his brother Iain, his wife and two of Ina’s granddaughters.
After the official opening tea and cake was served in the Activity room for Ina’s family, residents and staff.
Ishbel MacDonald, Interim Manager of Taigh Shiphoirt said:
“Ina was a much loved and respected resident who is remembered fondly by all who knew her. We are extremely grateful to Ina’s sons, Iain, George, Alasdair, Donald and Christopher for the generous donation that has enabled the installation of this life-saving equipment in memory of their mother. The device’s location means that it will be available in emergency situations to not only residents of the Goathill Care Campus but also the surrounding community.”
Cllr Gordon Murray said:
“On behalf of the local community, I would like to thank the Macdonald family for their very generous donation of a defibrillator at Taigh Shiphiort in Stornoway in memory of their beloved mother and grandmother, Ina Macdonald.
“The defibrillator is such an important piece of equipment which can save lives. This is a wonderful legacy to the memory of Ina, a highly respected and much loved resident of Taigh Shiphiort, from her family and I thank them very much on behalf of the community for their kindness.”
