Supplier and Contractor Information

The Comhairle has adopted the Scottish Government's 'Suppliers Charter' which commits us to improving the way we work with businesses. Both the public sector and business accept that effective procurement practices are an important factor in ensuring a varied and competitive marketplace and creating opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME's), as well as ensuring Best Value/Value for Money for the public sector.

The Comhairle has to follow strict rules when buying goods, works or services. This means that bidding for a Comhairle contract can at first seem complicated and time-consuming. We follow the Scottish Government Procurement Journey. An on-line guide called "The Suppliers Journey"  has also been produced which:

• explains the process of awarding a public sector contract in straightforward terms;
• sets out what buyers expect you to do at each stage in that process;
• gives practical information on how you can find out about business opportunities, how to bid for business, and what to expect when delivering the contract;
• tells you what support is available to help you win business, and what you can do if you are unsuccessful.

There is a specific policy for late and/or non-compliant Pre Qualifying Questionnaire’s (PQQ’s) and Invitations to Tender (ITT’s) and the discretions which may be applied.
