Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is planning to undertake Surface Dressing Works throughout the Western Isles from 6th May 2024.
Works are planned to commence in Tong Village and will then move to Parkend/ Braighe Area, Cameron Terrace , Tarbert to Scalpay, A859 Seilebost and Rhenigidale before moving to Uist on 3rd June for 2 weeks. Where required there will be diversions, traffic convoy and stop/go traffic control in operation for the period of the works which will lead to some delays. During the works there will be temporary signage and a 20mph temporary speed limit in effect, until sweeping and aftercare has been completed. Motorists are asked to obey the signage and take care whilst travelling through the works.
Residents in these areas are asked to consider children and pets during the laying period and not to park any vehicles adjacent to the road. Pedestrians, cyclists and motor cyclists should take care whilst passing the laying equipment . Residents will also be required to move parked cars to enable laying works to be completed. All the works are dry weather dependant and may be postponed as necessary.
In addition, Barra pre surface dressing patching works for the 2025 programme are expected to commence later this summer.
The Comhairle would like to thank the travelling public and residents for their help and patience during these essential works.
