Sports Descriptors

Basic Sports

Sessions introduce Primary 1 – 3 children to basic sports skills like run jumping throwing and catching, in a safe fun environment in the Lewis Sports Centre. Participants must bring suitable indoor kit, and water.

Bayble Beach Experience (Pre-School)

Adult & Child Beach Experience (Meet at Bayble Beach)

This session is for those attending Pre-school or P1, and with the help of our pre-school age specialist, will explore the fun that can be had in at the beach. A parent (or both if you like!) must stay with children for this activity.

Bayble Beach Experience (P1-3 & P4-7)

(Meet at Bayble Beach)

A fun session playing and exploring on Bayble Beach for those in P1-3 or P4-7.
 

Fun Football and Football Skills

Sessions encourage Primary children to develop their football skills, using specific drills and small sided games in a fun safe environment.  Participants bring suitable indoor kit, and water.

Girls Football Coaching Camp

Sessions are FREE to attend.

Fun activities, Skills and Technical Development with Competitive games.  Enjoy three days of Football Coaching delivered by the Head Coach and Players of the Western Isles Women’s Football Squad 2023 (Silver Medallists).  

Golf, Golf Skills, Fun Golf

Sessions encourage Primary 2 – 7 children to develop their golf skills or learn about the sport of golf.  Clubs will be provided at the venues (Stornoway or Isle of Harris Golf Club). Participants bring suitable indoor kit, and water.

Gymnastics

Sessions introduce Primary 1 – 4 children to the sport of gymnastics and develop the core gymnastics skills and learn new gymnastic specific moves in a fun safe environment in the Lewis Sports Centre. Participants must bring suitable indoor kit, and water.

Mini Kickers/Sports

Sessions introduce 3 – 4 year olds (Pre- School children) to basic co-ordination and movement skills used in all sport in the Lewis Sports Centre. Participants must bring suitable indoor kit, and water.

Multi-Sports & Swim

(Sports 12-1pm and Swim 1-2pm)
Children going into P4&5. Introduction to a range of different team and individual sports in a fun safe environment. Please bring suitable indoor kit, swimming gear and water.
PLEASE NOTE – The Swim part of the class is not lead by a coach or instructor – children under 8 MUST be accompanied in the pool by an adult. Children 8+ can swim unaccompanied but must be competent in the water.

Sailing Taster Day

Aimed at those who would like to see what sailing is all about without committing to a longer course. Participants must be able to swim and should bring a complete change of clothing with them, in case they do just that! They will also need to bring suncream, lunch, and a drink. This activity is weather-dependent and can sometimes be cancelled last minute, so please make sure the contact number on your booking is up to date.

Day RYA Stage: 1 and 2 Sailing Course

This 5-day course is aimed at those who have tried sailing and know that they like it and want to do more. It aims to take participants from relative novice to confident sailor using the RYA award scheme stages. Participants must attend the full 5 days to achieve the certificate at the end. Participants must be able to swim and should bring a complete change of clothing with them, in case they do just that! They will also need to bring suncream, lunch, and a drink each day. This activity is weather-dependent and can sometimes be cancelled last minute, so please make sure the contact number on your booking is up to date.

5 Day Stage: 3 Sailing Course

This 5-day course is aimed at those who have completed stage 1 and 2 and want to do more. It aims to take participants build on the sailing skills using the RYA award scheme stages. Participants must attend the full 5 days to achieve the certificate at the end. Participants must be able to swim and should bring a complete change of clothing with them, in case they do just that! They will also need to bring suncream, lunch, and a drink each day. This activity is weather-dependent and can sometimes be cancelled last minute, so please make sure the contact number on your booking is up to date. 

Trail Cycling Festival

Sessions are open to Primary 4 and 7 children who are competent at using your gears and brakes on the up and downhill off road parts of the Lews Castle grounds.  Must be able to cycle minimum 2 miles.  Participants must bring suitable outdoor kit, and water. Meet at Stornoway Golf Club car park.

Woodland Experience (Pre-School)

This session is for those attending Pre-school or P1, and with the help of our pre-school specialist, will explore the fun that can be had in the woodlands. A parent (or both if you like!) must stay with children for this activity.

Woodland Experience (P1-3 & P4-7)

Meet next to the Hub

This session will give young people the opportunity to have fun in the woodlands. They may build dens, play games, go on an adventure, think about survival skills, go on a minibeast hunt, or something else entirely – it depends on the day and the imagination of the group. We aim to return them to you tired and inspired though!
