Register to Vote

You must be on the Register of Electors to vote.  A Household Enquiry Form is issued each year around July/August listing everyone who is registered in the household and if you are not registered, you can register at any time online. A notification letter was also issued to each household in February 2021 listing everyone who is registered in the household and if they have a postal vote in place.

To vote in the Scottish Parliamentary Elections on 6 May 2021, you must be:-

  • aged 16 or over on the day of the election;
  • a UK, qualifying Commonwealth or European Union citizen;
  • a qualifying foreign citizen, who has permission to enter or stay in the UK, or who does not need such permission;
  • resident at an address in Scotland; and
  • on the electoral register

To vote in the Scottish Parliament Election you must be registered by Monday 19 April 2021.  As electors now require to be individually registered you may access the online facility Register to Vote (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) or alternatively contact the local Electoral Registration Officer on 01851 706262.

If you choose to vote in person you do not need to do anything else.  You will receive a poll card which will detail the polling station where you can vote and the hours of poll.  Alternatively you can apply to vote by post or by proxy.

  • the deadline to apply to vote by post is 5pm on Tuesday 6 April 2021
  • the deadline to apply to vote by proxy (someone to vote on your behalf) is 5pm Tuesday 27 April 2021

If you already have a postal vote or proxy vote in place and wish to change this, the deadline is 5pm Tuesday 6 April 2021.

If you want to cancel an existing postal or proxy vote, the deadline is 5pm Tuesday 20 April 2021.
