Draft Proposals and Returning Officers Comments

The closing date for initial comments for the review of Polling Districts and Polling Places within the Na h-Eileanan an Iar area was Friday 14 August 2020.  No comments or suggestions were received by the deadline.

In accordance with Section 18C of the Representation of the People Act 1983, as amended by the Electoral Administration Act 2006, the next stage in the process is the publication of the Comhairle’s draft proposals and the Returning Officer’s comments.  There is a further opportunity to make representations on these by 5.00pm on Friday 18 September 2020

Comments and representations may be made in writing to Derek Mackay, Governance and Elections Manager, Chief Executive’s Department, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Council Offices, Sandwick Road, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, HS1 2BW or via email to elections@cne-siar.gov.uk

The final proposal will be submitted to the Comhairle on 30 September 2020 and publication of the outcome of the review on 5 October 2020.

There are no changes planned in relation to polling districts.  However the Review will consider the new Local Government Wards that will be introduced for the 2022 Comhairle Election in order to ensure alignment.  Subject to exploring alternative venues within the Back/Coll areas which would provide improved parking and access, it is proposed that the combined polling place for E08C and E08D within the Loch a Tuath Ward is Back Free Church Hall.

The revised list of polling places to be submitted to the Comhairle for approval on 30 September 2020 is available on the Revised List of Polling Places (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) webpage.
