Outer Hebrides Community Planning Partnership

Climate Change Working Group

The Outer Hebrides Community Planning Partnership (OHCPP) established a New Climate Change Group in the Outer Hebrides  in 2019.
The group has broad representation from public bodies throughout the islands and is working to develop actions and targets around climate issues for subsequent inclusion in the OHCPP Local Outcome Improvement Plan.

Climate Rationale and Case for Action

The OHCPP Climate Change Working Group (CCWG) in collaboration with Adaptation Scotland have developed a Climate Rationale and Case for Action. The documents aim to provide an overview of the climate challenge for the Outer Hebrides and enable priorities for climate change adaptation in the islands to be identified. The Climate Rationale and Case for Action were approved by the Outer Hebrides Community Planning Partnership at the board meeting on the 10th of November 2022.

The Outer Hebrides Climate Rationale (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) collates evidence of how the climate is changing in the Outer Hebrides and the impacts this is having or is expected to have on people, businesses, and ecosystems in our islands.

The accompanying Outer Hebrides Case for Action (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) sets out the OHCPP Climate Change Working Group’s vision, purpose and priorities for action to adapt to the climate impacts identified and improve climate resilience in the Outer Hebrides.

Climate Change Maps

The group has also developed Climate Change Maps for na h-Eileanan an Iar (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) .The interactive maps show natural, historic and built environments within Na h-Eileanan Siar, overlaid with tidal, flood risk and anticipated erosion extents data.
