THI Public Realm

‘Public Realm’ is a term for areas where the public have general access outside buildings. Three Public Realm Projects were included in the Township Heritage Initiative (THI):-

  • An interpretation project at Lews castle designed to improve the appearance of the front of the castle and provide material which explains the history of the castle, future proposals and how this links in with the THI.
  • Resurfacing Cromwell Street between North Beach and South Beach with good quality materials to improve the appearance of this pedestrianised area.
  • The repair/restoration of a section of the Lews Castle walls using traditional lime mortar and masonry. This project also included a training element in lime mortar and masonry for local contractors.
