Athlete Travel Award Scheme 2022 (April – October)

Seventeen Athletes from the Western Isles applied for the first tranche of funding available from the Athlete Travel Award Scheme (ATAS) 2022 (April – October). The applications were of a very high standard with many excellent stories of our elite local athletes being successful on a National and Regional stage.

Applications were submitted by Athletes spanning the entirety of the Western Isles, with applications from Barra, Ness and many districts in between.

Each application was deliberated by a Panel consisting of CNES Sport & Health Team Members, L&H and U&B Sports Council Representatives, a CNES Councillor and a representative from funding partners sportscotland.

At the conclusion of the scoring process, it was agreed that 10 Athletes would be successful on this occasion, each receiving £750 for this 6-month period:

Stewart Harris, Chief Executive, sportscotland, said: “As the national agency for sport, we want to deliver a sporting system that is inclusive and that means recognising the need for tailor-made solutions where there are specific challenges, such as those faced by athletes from Highland & Islands.

“By working in partnership with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar services can be delivered locally through the sportscotland institute of sport, with additional financial support through the Athlete Travel Award Scheme (ATAS). We know from experience that this can have a real impact, allowing athletes the flexibility to follow the best training and competition plan that will allow them to progress in their chosen sport.”
