Bonfire Night

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar along with partners from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Western Isles and Police Scotland, want to ensure that everyone stays safe this bonfire night across the Western Isles.

We would urge our communities to follow current advice and guidelines around social distancing. The rules around gatherings outside will not change when the Western Isles move into Level One on Monday therefore you should still not have any more than 6 people from 2 different households at a bonfire. Current guidance can be found on the Scottish Government website (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) .

Please have a read of the advice on Parents Club website (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) this includes current COVID-19 guidelines around group sizes, social distancing and FACTS precautions.

Group Commander Gavin Hammond said, "With public firework displays and bonfires not going ahead this year due to current guidance on gatherings under COVID-19 restrictions you may be tempted to hold your own fireworks display in the garden. We’d urge people to follow SFRS advice that anyone who does wish to host a private event reduces any risks by ensuring to familiarise themselves with the Firework Code and Fire Safety Guidance (Opens in a new window or downloads a file)"
