Lewis Sport Centre Staff have been redeployed at the Co-operative Supermarket in Stornoway over recent weeks, supporting the ongoing work by the Home Deliveries Department to supply vulnerable people with essential shopping.
Sports Facilities Services Manager Tony Wade said: “Our staff wanted to help in any way they could and it has been great that they have been able to do so in the Home deliveries department at The Co-op. "The Co-op were struggling to cope with the increased demand for home deliveries and we have been able to help them manage the workload. It has been beneficial on both sides and we will continue to support the store and the community in this manner."
Community Sports Development Officer, Steven Munro, who is working at the Co-op, commented: “I am more than happy to do my bit to help out in the same manner as I’m sure all Comhairle staff are. It certainly makes me feel like I am doing my bit to support the community in these strange times.”
In addition to this, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Sport and Health staff have ensured that people across the Western Isles have online activities available to help them keep fit during lockdown.
Online fitness Classes are available in Uist and Barra and in Lewis and Harris. These classes can be booked by Slainte Mhath members using our Online Booking page. Non members or those who don’t wish to book online can contact email@example.com.
The CNES MyWellness App (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) is also available and will be updated with a further three weeks of workout content at this week. The MyWellness app is free and has three levels of workout available each day. People can choose from Easy, Medium and Pro to find a level that suits them.
Sports Facilities Services Manager, Tony Wade, said: "We have been really pleased with how well attended our online activities have been. Although there are many online platforms providing people with activities, our staff have connections with our customers and it is important that people are able to workout online with a familiar face. Kevin Morrison and Lisa Weir have been working hard to support vulnerable people on all our islands, ensuring that they are able to keep fit through smaller scale online activities."
"We are also offering individual training advice, anyone who wishes to take advantage of this in Uist and Barra can contact Nicola Steele directly at firstname.lastname@example.org and Lewis and Harris customers can contact Lisa Weir at email@example.com . We will continue to try to broaden our reach and from this Tuesday we will be Live Streaming Aquafit classes which will be available to watch anytime."
