Sgoil Bhreascleit Compete in National STEM Competition

Six pupils from the Sgoil Bhreascleit STEM Club (pictured) are ready to compete in the national STEM competition today, 31st May, at the Glasgow Science Centre run by the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI).

The club, led by their teacher Mrs Gilchrist, is for P5 to P7 pupils and is now a fixture in the calendar for the pupils in the school. Every year the club benefits from voluntary support from within the community, along with financial support from the Breasclete Community Association, the Parent Council and local businesses and organisations. This year, they will be competing against schools from across Scotland and the primary topic and presentation is focussed on what is the PH of Scotland. Clubs will be presenting their findings from their research into water along with a variety of other STEM related challenges throughout the day.

Attendance at this years’ competition was only possible from sponsorship and funding from Tighean Innse Gall (TIG), Breasclete Community Association (BCA) and the Sgoil Bhreascleit Parent Council.  TIG Chairman Brain Chaplin commented “TIG is pleased to sponsor the Sgoil Breascleit STEM club, supporting our Scientists, Engineers, Technology experts and Mathematicians of the future links nicely into our corporate aims of promoting new energy efficient and carbon free technologies.  TIG Staff and Committee wish the club every success for the competition”.
