Improving Lives, Improving Life Chances

The Outer Hebrides Child Protection Committee in partnership with the Domestic Abuse Forum and the Adult Protection Committee recently held a Public Protection Conference, Improving Lives, Improving Life Chances, at An Lanntair. The event was co-funded by the Chief Officers Group and the NHS Western Isles Health Promotions Department.

The initiative was a follow on from previous years very successful Child Protection Committee Annual Conferences and there was a wish to expand the concept to include the Domestic Abuse Forum and the Adult Support and Protection Committee. The overarching theme was identified as Domestic Abuse which impacted on the work of all three groups.

Chief Inspector, Gordon Macleod, Chairperson of the Chief Officers Group, said: "This was another very successful Public Protection focussed annual conference. The audience of over 130 consisted of practitioners and Managers from across the Outer Hebrides with the theme being Improving Lives - Improving Life Chances."

"We would wish to record our thanks to our two guest speakers, John Carnochan and Neil Whiting for their excellent contributions. The Baldybane Theatre Group, with two exceptional young actors, delivered a very impactful drama on the theme of Domestic Abuse."
