Energy Advice

Trading Standards Officers at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar  are advising residents that they should contact Home Energy Scotland in the first instance  for free and impartial advice concerning offers of free heating, insulation or other similar offers.

A spokesperson, said: "We are aware that there are several companies currently in the islands who are offering free heating and insulation, and we would always recommend that consumers firstly take independent advice from the home energy experts at Home Energy Scotland. Home Energy Scotland is a Scottish Government programme managed by the Energy Saving Trust.

We would also  advise residents to be careful when being asked for personal details in response to marketing literature, telephone cold calls  or similar information requested by doorstep callers."

Bob Grant Highlands and Islands Centre Manager from Home Energy Scotland, said: "We would encourage local householders who are unsure about these types of offers to call us free on 0808 808 2282 to speak to our advisors. We are standing by to assist callers, and we can also provide free, impartial advice on energy saving, renewable energy and other ways to save energy and money."
