Trading Standards Warning

Trading Standards at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar are warning residents of a telephone scam which has been circulating locally, where the caller states that your bank is under investigation and in order to protect yourself you are instructed to move your money to a different account. The caller then provides the sort code and account number to enable the transfer.

The caller sounds genuine and will tell you that you need to act urgently. They will also say that you must not disclose the information with anyone including bank staff.

A spokesperson said "This is a scam. A banking institution will not contact you in this manner. Our advice is to hang up, wait 5 to 10 minutes and call your bank on the legitimate phone number printed on your bank statements."
