Our Islands Our Future
Members of the Comhairle’s Policy and Resources Committee will be asked to approve a refreshed Joint Position Statement for Our Islands Our Future at this morning’s meeting and to authorise the Chief Executive in consultation with the Leader to finalise its terms with Orkney and Shetland Islands
Councils.
This follows the introduction of the Islands Bill at the Scottish Parliament last week and discussions taking place on the Deal for the Islands which has two strands: Enhancing Local Democracy and Achieving Our Islands’ Full Economic Potential.
Chair of Policy and Resources, Cllr Roddie Mackay, said: “It is important that we take a proactive approach to tackling the challenges faced by our communities and to develop our full economic potential we must make the most of our nationally important resources such as renewable energy. The Islands are seeking to make the most of our nationally important resources such as renewable energy for the benefit of Scotland and the UK.”
The recommendations of the Policy and Resources Committee will go to the full Comhairle later on in the day for approval.
