Fooball - Warm Up Ideas

Activity

Description

Progression

Network

Walk/Run about a safe area from marker to marker.Change the movement between the markers,

Examples below:

  • Jogging forward or backward, sideways, lift knee’s or Heel flicks
  • At each marker you can touch the marker, jump over the marker, run around the marker

Add in a football or ball and dribble between the markers

Preform a skill at each marker example

Tipy Toes, Sweep the floor, tick tock or sole of foot 

Follow the player

Ask an adult or brother/sister to help you. Move about a small or large area and get the person to follow you.
Perform different movements and the follower must copy what you do. Swap roller every so often 

Add in a football to the front player, player at front always has the football or ball

Opposites

 

Ask an adult or brother/sister to help by calling out the following commands i.e. high, low, stop and go perform each command when required.

Once they understand the commands change to the opposites.

Fun Numbers

Walk/Run about a safe area and using parts of the body that rhymes with the numbers 1-5 and touching a marker i.e;

  • number 1 and thumb
  • 2 and shoe
  • 3 and knee
  • 4 jump of the floor
  • 5 silly jive

Make up your own rhyme for number 6 to 10

Chest Catch

Ask an adult or brother/sister to help, they  give the command chest or catch, you must listen and react to their command

Then you would change to the opposites (chest means catch and catch means chest).

Dribbling

Inside 

Walk/Run about a safe area with the football in front of you, using the inside of both feet slowly tap the ball moving forward. If the ball goes too far in front use you hand to stop it and start again

Stop with sole of the foot, or follow a sequence ie 2 touches one foot the 2 the other and repeat

 

Sole

 

Walk/Run about a safe area with the football in front of you, using the sole of both feet slowly roll the ball forward. If the ball goes too far in front use you hand or foot to stop it and start again

Try and go at bit faster but always be in control of the football

Outside

Inside

Walk/Run about a safe area with the football in front of you, using the inside of your foot then the outside slowly tap the ball moving forward. If the ball goes too far in front use you hand to stop it and start again

Try and use the sequence using both feet

Dribble Track

Set out a few markers or plastic bottles in a straight line. Start at one end of the line and try and dribble the ball in between the markers using the above skills to reach the other end.

This time dribble to the 1st marker then back to start then go to 2nd marker and back to start repeat until you reach the furthest away marker

Clock Face

Stand in the middle of your garden or area take two steps forward and put a marker down then stand in middle again, repeat the above but place mark at each side of you and one behind.
Dribble the ball on the command from an adult or brother/sister

  • 12 is straight ahead
  • 3 is to one side
  • 6 is behind you
  • 9 is the other side

 

Turns

Football - Turns Ideas

Activity

Description

Progression

Sole of Foot 

Walk/Run about a safe area with the football in front of you.
Ask an adult or brother/sister to call out 1, when you hear 1 you should use the sole of your foot to perform the turn slowly

Perform the sole of the foot turn using one foot and next time use the other foot

 

Heel

Walk/Run about a safe area with the football in front of you.
Ask an adult or brother/sister to call out 2, when you hear 2 you should perform the heel turn slowly (make sure with the heel turn you tap the ball gently before you turn)

Remember to use both feet when performing the turn.

You could try to do 2 heel turns in a row on the call

Inside of foot

Walk/Run about a safe area with the football in front of you.
Ask an adult or brother/sister to call out 3, when you hear 3 you should use the inside of the foot to turn (chop action) to perform this turn. Try and always be in control of your football

Remember to use both feet when performing the turn.

You could try to do 2 inside of foot turns in a row on the call

Outside of the foot

Walk/Run about a safe area with the football in front of you.
Ask an adult or brother/sister to call out 4, when you hear 4 you should use the outside of the foot to turn to perform this turn. Try and always be in control of your football

Try and remember the turn with the correct number, listen for that number and perform that skill
