On 19th November 2018 the Comhairle adopts a new Local Development Plan to guide development in the Outer Hebrides, the Plan period is 2018 to 2023. This is now the main document, along with the associated Supplementary Guidance, used for deciding planning applications. It replaces and supersedes the Local Development Plan that was adopted in 2012.

Under Section 21 the Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006, an Action Programme must be prepared to implement the Local Development Plan by setting out a list of actions required to deliver each of the Plan's Policies and Proposals; the name of the person who is to carry out the action; and the timescale for carrying out each action. The Action Programme to accompany the LDP is currently being prepared and will be available on this page in due course.
