Breasclete Pupils Busy Preparing For Metagama Production
Sgoil Bhreascleit and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Department of Education, Skills and Children’s Services are delighted to announce the third in a series of events to commemorate one hundred years since the Metagama sailed from Stornoway on the 21st of April 1923.
The third event will take place at Breasclete Community Centre on Monday 27th of March 2023 at 6.30pm. Pupils from the area will showcase their acting, singing and musical skills in what promises to be a memorable evening. The script was written by Cathy Mary MacMillan and inputs from local individuals have been invaluable in bringing this project to life for the pupils. Local piper Uisdean Reid will be performing as well as singer, Norman Smith and accordion player, Anna MacInnes. The psalm precentor will be Kenny Smith.
Evelyn Coull MacLeod said:
“The work which is taking place in our schools is a source of optimism for us all. Every event is unique with differing scripts which bring in local stories relating to the Metagama and the families who were impacted by this chapter in our history. Pupils have been highly engaged with the project and we hope that they will have everlasting memories of their time working on the Metagama.”
Tickets are available on the Eventbrite website (Opens in a new window or downloads a file). The event is free to attend but a silver collection for Bethesda will be at the door.
