Recent Success of the Outer Hebrides YLAG

Each YLAG area was able to open a small grant for applications to further support the YLAG objectives and benefit the community’s youth population. This funding was an opportunity for young people to be fully involved in the process through applying, reviewing and awarding the funds, and we are pleased to announce after receiving a number of high calibre applications, 6 successful projects across the Western Isles will share in a total of £5000 YLAG funding.

• Taigh Dhonnchaidh has been awarded £1308 to secure fresh recording equipment for encouraging their young musicians.    
• LHYCA Scaladale Centre has been awarded £705 to send instructors to achieve their climbing wall awards, enabling them to instruct young people.
• Stornoway Athletic FC has been awarded £700 to purchase brand new equipment to attract more young players.
• Eilidh Mairi MacLeod has been awarded £1204 to establish The Art Clinic, a project designed to get lesser-heard voices creative in arts and crafts.
• Western Isles Youth Climate Action Group has been awarded £683 to purchase materials for their young activists and climate cafes.
• Castlebay Community Hall  has been awarded £400 to contribute to events and equipment for young folk in Barra.

Calum Fraser, YLAG member, said: “I think the YLAG has been very successful given the range of projects we’ve been able to support, from start-up entrepreneurs to youth groups, from the Butt to Barra. It’s been great to see engagement from all over the Western Isles for all sorts of projects and it’s rewarding to see how far that money goes, in that it could potentially benefit hundreds of young people”.
