Dementia Training for Sgoil Lionacleit Pupils
Dementia Awareness Week
Sgoil Lionacleit pupils Matthew MacDonald and Ronan MacPhee (both S6), have completed a 4-week dementia training programme with befriending organisation Caraidean Uibhist. The programme focused on Dementia care & support, volunteering and befriending.
Both Matthew and Ronan received certification for their participation in these workshops and were highly praised by those delivering the training.
Ronan MacPhee said: "I feel like this course helped me, not only to understand how to deal with people with dementia, but also allowed me to grow more confident with general people skills and communicating with others. I am really glad I took part in this training."
Matthew MacDonald said: "I really enjoyed the fact that the training took place within a small group, it allowed me to speak openly. I believe the skills I learnt during the Dementia training could be applied to any scenario when dealing with people."
Jo Sinclair, Temporary Project Leader, Caraidean Uibhist said: "Ronan and Matthew attended the Caraidean Young Persons training, one of the workshops related to Dementia, they have been a real credit to themselves - they participated, engaged, worked in partnership and were overall really good communicators. These young men should be encouraged in the career choices - their interaction and positivity makes them extremely employable."
