Director of Education, Skills and Children’s Services Appointed
Mr. William Macdonald, newly appointed Director of Education, Skills and Children’s Services.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has today appointed William Macdonald as Director of Education, Skills and Children’s Services. William becomes the first Uist-based Comhairle Director of Education and his appointment comes after Bernard Chisholm retired from the post which he has held for over 5 years.
Mr Macdonald has almost 40 years of experience in Education and was appointed Chief Education Officer in 2018. His many years of experience and clear understanding of the service will allow him to continue the important work of leading the education system in the Western Isles.
Mr Macdonald, said: “I will continue to build on the legacy left by the previous Director with a continued focus on meeting the needs of all pupils. This includes the innovative work being done through e-Sgoil at local and national level; devolving power to the school community through the empowerment agenda and further strengthening the Gaelic agenda.
“We will continue with partnership working across agencies and engage with parents and carers to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people.”
