Severe Weather Warning Issued by Met Office
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind in The Western Isles. The Met Office forecasts unseasonably strong winds for the Western Isles with the potential for isolated gusts of 70 to 75 mph across Uist and Barra.
A notification warning of severe weather from the Met Office is valid from 3pm today until 5am on Sunday morning-
“We are currently seeing gusts of 35-45mph across many parts, however the southwesterly winds will continue to strengthen this afternoon across northwestern areas with gusts of 60-65mph for northern Argyll, the northwest mainland and the Western Isles. There is also the potential for isolated gusts of 70-75mph across Tiree, Coll, Barra and the Uists during the late-afternoon and early-evening.
Predicting impacts during the lockdown scenario is a little uncertain, however these wind speeds are unseasonably strong and we are likely to see some transport disruption with the potential for some short-term disruptions to utilities and large waves affecting coastal communities.”
