Comhairle Ceilidhs Reach Over 50,000 Viewers

Last weekend saw 52,000 people tune in to watch local artists perform on the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Facebook page. This huge audience is the highest recorded since the Comhairle launched its Social Media Activities Programme and the fortnightly e-ceilidh.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is pleased to be able to offer a platform that allows local artists to engage with such a high number of people. The artists efforts have kept people entertained across the Western Isles and the Comhairle would like to join the viewers in thanking them for giving up their time to perform.

The third edition of the e-ceilidh was hosted by Peat and Diesel’s Uilleam Macleod on Saturday night and was viewed by over 19,000 people. Iain ‘Costello’ MacIver and Willie Campbell also drew in thousands of viewers over the weekend.

Willie Campbell said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the last ceilidh, it’s absolutely amazing to see so many people tuning into them. I’m definitely playing to a much bigger audience than I would under normal circumstances for a live stream. I had to cancel recording sessions and I’m making an album in the house so it’s been a good opportunity for me to reach new people. You certainly get the sense that the ceilidhs are pulling people together at a difficult time.”

This weekend Ceitlin Lilidh from the traditional Gaelic group SIAN will be performing on Friday at 9pm. Saturday night will see the return of local singer Iain ‘Tosh’ Macintosh at 9pm.
