Comhairle Calls for Meeting on Arnish
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has called for a meeting with the Scottish Government and Highlands and Islands Enterprise early in the New Year to regarding the Arnish yard in Stornoway following the news that 11 workers were laid off last week.
Councillor Donald Crichton, Chairman of the Comhairle’s Sustainable Development Committee stated, “A successful Arnish Yard is vital for the local economy of our islands. We are aware of challenges with procurement and allocation of contracts in the sector and guaranteeing a consistent supply of work. It’s also extremely disappointing and frustrating for the workforce. I will be writing to the Scottish Government and HIE seeking an urgent meeting early in the New Year to explore ways in which we can work together with Bi-Fab to rectify the situation.”
