Luke MacLeod, from Gress, who is a pupil at The Nicolson Institute was today announced at the Lewis Local Mod’s Literacy Day as the winner of the Dìleab (Legacy) prize.
Luke wrote a poignant story about the Iolaire tragedy and received high praise from the judges who presented him with the award. The piece was written as a diary with two brothers returning home after four, long hard years at War. Unfortunately, the boy’s brother died on the Beats of Holm. Luke was commended for his writing, which demonstrated good research, featured a lot of feeling and impressive use of imagery.
