Iolaire Group Thanks Cormorant Alpha Platform Charity Fund
Taqa Cormorant Alpha Platform Charity Fund today presented a cheque for £200 to the Iolaire Working Group which is working on a range of events to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Iolaire disaster.
Chair Norman A Macdonald, has expressed thanks on behalf of the Working Group. He said: “The impact of the loss of HMY Iolaire on the Isle of Lewis and Harris cannot be overstated, the tragic circumstances still haunt many villages and it is only now at the time of recognising 100 years since the disaster that people are beginning to speak about family connections and the depth of distress suffered when 201 men lost their lives only a few yards from shore.”
The Working Group is also looking at a Community Remembrance event on the 31st December 2018 and a Civic Service on the 1st January 2019, and, weather permitting, hopes that at least an element of both events will be held at the site of Iolaire Memorial.
