Chief Executive to Jointly Lead SPA Review
Malcolm Burr, Chief Executive of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, has been appointed by Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Michael Matheson, to jointly lead a review which will consider how the executive of Scottish Police Authority (SPA) can best support its Board to take informed, transparent decisions.
Mr Burr will provide an independent perspective in jointly leading the review along with the SPA deputy chair, Nicola Marchant. Mr Burr’s commitment will be around two days per month over three to four months or as required.
He said: “Serving and safeguarding our communities is one of the most important duties in public life and it is important that arrangements are in place which support the highest standards of scrutiny and co-operative working, in the best interests of those communities. Part of that includes engaging stakeholders in the work of the Authority and we will be looking at how that can be strengthened and what the consequent staffing and operating structures for the SPA should be. I am very pleased to be asked to jointly lead this review and look forward to working with SPA deputy chair Nicola Marchant and other colleagues.”
