Bean Game

Jumping Bean – Jump up and down

Runner Bean – Run on the spot

Broad Bean – Stretch arms and Legs out wide

Baked Bean – Lie on floor sunbathing

Jelly Bean – Wobble like a Jelly

Chilli Bean – Shiver and shake

Frozen Bean – Stand still

Bean Sprout – Stand up tall and thin

Beans on Toast – Curl up in a ball

Kidney Bean – Bend over and touch your toes 

Move about a safe area from marker to marker and preform a bean at each one

Ask a Parent or brother/Sister to shout out the beans for you to perform

Markers can be plastic bottles, jumpers, rolled up sock or rolled up towels

 

No Racquet

Progression

Throw

Stand up tall, feet shoulder width apart (stable base) start with Shuttle/Pom Pom using an
under arm movement throw it up in the air to about head height and let it hit the floor  

Place a target out in front of you and try and get the shuttle/Pom Pom to land in the target

Example of targets – bucket, hoop or sock

Catch

Stand up tall, feet shoulder width apart (stable base) start with Shuttle/Pom Pom using an
under arm movement throw it up in the air to about head height and as it is fall try and catch it
with two hands and belly button height

Throw the Shuttle/PomPom up in the air with two hands and catch with one hand

Clap

Stand up tall, feet shoulder width apart (stable base) start with Shuttle/Pom Pom using an
under arm movement throw it up in the air to about head height and as it is fall try and catch it with two hands and belly button height

Throw the Shuttle/PomPom up in the air with two hands and clap then catch the Shuttle/PomPom.

Progress the number of claps each time.

Grips

Basic

This grip is used to play forehand shots, it can be known as the V or forehand grip. Player hold the racquet in their preferred hand loosely, run the a finger from the other hand down the edge of the racquet, then down the shaft of the racquet and between the thumb and the 1st finger creating a V shape about half way down the grip.

Thumb

This grip is used to play backhand shots, it can be known as the backhand grip. The thumb is placed on the flat side of the grip with thumb nail and strings of the racquet facing you. If you run the finger of the other hand down the strings, then down the shaft of the racquet until you come to your other thumb on the grip.

Roll Around

Using the Basic/V/Forehand grip place a shuttle/pompom onto the strings and holding the racquet straight
out to the side at shoulder height and move the shuttle/pompom around and try not to let it fall off the racquet head

Perform the same skill but no the move ie walking running and side step

Flick

Using the Basic/V/Forehand grip place a shuttle/pompom onto the strings and holding the racquet straight out to
the side at shoulder height, using your wrist make a flicking movement to hit the shuttle/pompom up in the air

Set out a target area and try and land the shuttle/pompom into it.

Start with large target area and reduce if successful to a smaller area

Keepie up

Using the Basic/V/Forehand grip place a shuttle/pompom onto the strings and holding the racquet straight out
to the side at shoulder height, using your wrist make a flicking movement to hit the shuttle/pompom up in the air repeat this skill without letting the shuttle/pompom hit the floor

Follow the sequence

  1. hit and catch
  2. hits and catch
  3. hits and catch

If the shuttle/pompom hits the floor start again

Tricks

Using your keep up skills and try a trick Example

  • Hopping
  • Kneeling
  • Under your leg
  • Behind back
  • Sitting
  • Lying down

Perform the same skill but no the move ie walking running and side step

Target

Using the thumb/backhand grip hold the shuttle/pompom between the thumb and 1st finger
in the non-playing hand and touching the string, face the target and push the shuttle/pompom towards target.

Start with large target area and reduce if successful to a smaller area
