Archaeology Awakened Project 2022

The archaeology of the Outer Hebrides is of great interest to the community. In 2020 Museum nan Eilean received funding from Museums Galleries Scotland for a 12-month project (the Sònraichte Project) to enable focussed work on some of our archaeological assemblages to improve documentation, preservation and access.

Archaeology Awakened is a new project which builds on the success of ‘Sònraichte’. The aim of this project is to undertake focussed work on a single large archaeological assemblage – Traigh na Berie - to improve the management, knowledge and accessibility of Museum nan Eilean’s Archaeology Collections.

The project also aims to promote the archaeology collections and the work of the heritage service through social media, blogs, Open Days, presentations and workshops to various audiences.
