Consultation : Stornoway Vision
We asked for your views on what would make Stornoway a better place to a better place to Visit, Live, Work, Study and Invest, in response to Masterplan proposals developed by 360 Architecture.
An open day was held on the 16th of May 2017 at the Stornoway Town Hall. The public was invited to drop in and view a series of display boards detailing the Stornoway Vision. The design team was on hand to discuss the proposals and answer any questions, and feedback forms were handed out and collected to get input from a wide range of people.
For those who were unable to attend the open day, copies of the display boards were posted on the CNES website, with online surveys available to collect feedback.
We asked what you thought of the proposed small, medium and large level strategies to improve the local environment and infrastructure for residents and visitors
The open day had a robust turn out and reception to the vision and strategies was very positive. The response from the local community and stakeholders during the drop in sessions was very positive.
The following strategies were strongly favoured: Connecting to the Waterfront, Breaking Down Walls: Connecting to Harbour; Connecting to Lews Castle and LCC; Sense of Arrival: Ferry Terminal.
360 Architecture collated key issues and suggestions from the community feedback, and these were incorporated within the final report. Particular community feedback which was incorporated was as follows: opportunities for integrating shelter within the waterfont walk, harbour and public areas around the town, opportunity for a multi-storey car park, designated long-term car parks, more child friendly areas and proposals to lop trees in order to improve views of Lews Castle from key points in the town.
Of the Key Themes:
A number of areas of feedback from the consultations were incorporated as options within the final report. These strategies will be taken forward as opportunities emerge.
We Did Not Do
All main areas of feedback are reflected in the final version of the Stornoway Vision document.
