Seven written responses were received and nine requests for meetings were met. Broad support for the proposed themes was expressed and additional suggestions for priority actions made.

Responses were collated and analysed and used to inform the preparation of the Draft Strategy document at Appendix 3, for the June 2017 Comhairle committee series. The Comhairle supported the further development of all four themes and the final strategy is scheduled to be presented at the September 2017 committee series.

Overview

Comhairle Nan Eilean Siar has a statutory responsibility as the strategic housing organisation for the Outer Hebrides to produce a Local Housing Strategy (LHS).  The Outer Hebrides Local Housing Strategy 2011-2016 details the housing outcomes, objectives, and actions that the Comhairle and our local partners believe will best address the issues affecting our distinctive local housing system during the lifespan of the Strategy. It provides a framework that will allow us to work together to use our resources and expertise to improve the housing outcomes for residents of the Outer Hebrides.

Why We Are Consulting

As per the Appendix 1, Comhairle nan  Eilean Siar is developing a new Local Housing Strategy for the period 2017-2022 and wishes to gather as many views as possible on the priorities it should aim to address. 

What Happens Next

We are keen to hear your views on the Consultation Summary at Appendix 2. Representations may be made using the online survey response form. Alternatively paper copies are available at all Comhairle offices and local libraries.  The hard copy should be sent to the Housing Services Team, Development Department, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Sandwick Road, Stornoway HS1 2BW to be received no later than Friday 10 March 2017.
