Disposal Of Animal By-Products And Carcasses

'Animal by-product' means any carcase or part of any animal or product of animal origin not intended for direct human consumption. There are three defined categories of animal by-products and each may have to be disposed off in a different way.

This requires that all animal by-products, including carcasses of fallen farm animals to be consigned or disposed of without undue delay by rendering, incineration, or burial. Burial (at a depth where carnivorous animals cannot gain access) is only allowed in certain in remote areas including the Western Isles.
